RFA Engineering (www.rfamec.com) is an engineering service provider dedicated to delivering our clients with timely engineering support and expertise. We are seeking an experienced candidate to become an integral part of our engineering team. The selected candidate will work with an experienced engineering staff using state-of-the-art engineering tools & processes. This position will operate onsite at our customer's world-class engineering and manufacturing facility.

Senior Embedded Software Engineer

The Senior Software Engineer position is responsible for assigned R&D and Engineering tasks. You will be responsible for development of embedded vehicle controls systems using C++.  Testing methods include bench testing with controllers, extensive vehicle simulation testing, and physical full machine testing.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain technical coordination and support with the Automation team and other departments, including, but not limited to, Product safety, Production, Sourcing, Sales and Technical Services.
  • Design, develop and maintain top of the art automation modules and machine control software for drill rigs.
  • Plan development schedule/content for assigned automation modules.
  • Ability to mentor junior developers and improve the team by (re)defining the way of working
  • Project level work and be able to create work breakdown structures (WBS) in MS Project or similar software.
  • Will work in compliance with the safety management program.
  • Follow the R&D and Engineering strategic plan as prioritized by Engineering Manager and as communicated in performance evaluations.
  • Provide support and work closely with other functions in the organization as needed and prioritized by Engineering Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related engineering field.
  • Minimum 7+ years of practical experience in Machine Control Software Development.
  • Demonstrate ability to write robust and maintainable code using modern C++.
  • Have strong knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Familiar with full software lifecycle: specification to maintenance.
  • Experience in designing software modules and software architecture.
  • Demonstrate ability to solve problems independently and guide junior developers.
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of Linux real-time systems (some understanding of Windows environment).
  • Working knowledge of version control systems (Git and SVN)
  • Have hands-on experience with build systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small development teams.
  • Knowledgeable with agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban)
  • Good understanding of common software engineering standards for mobile equipment product development and ISO standards.
  • Team working and clear communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work independently or on teams to get the work product completed on-time and on-budget.
  • Maintains awareness of current state-of-the-art technologies and trends in automation and suggests product improvement ideas.

    Desired Attributes

    • MS in Computer Science or related Engineering field is preferred.
    • Programming experience with Qt, QML, Python, C, IEC 61131-3 (CodeSys), Matlab (Simulink)
    • Build system experience (CMake)
    • Experience with using Jenkins
    • Experience with using Polarion
    • Worked with CAN (CANopen and J1939) and Ethernet (REST and UDP) networks
    • Application lifecycle management experience (Polarion)
    • Experience with Azure
    • Experience with data analytics
