Requirements

We are currently seeking a Landscape Designer to join our landscape architecture studio team, who can contribute to our overall team success.


Candidates for this position should demonstrate professionalism, strive to contribute innovation and creativity to the team, and exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidates for this position should be proficient in the following primary responsibilities of landscape architecture:

Primary Responsibilities 

o Site Analysis: Contributes to conducting thorough assessments of the site’s natural features, climate, soil conditions, and existing vegetation. 

o Conceptual Design: With guidance and support, develops initial design concepts and ideas for spaces based on client requirements, site analysis, and functional needs. This often includes creating sketches, mood boards, and diagrams to communicate and express the overall vision for the project.

o Detailed Design: Contributes to the translation of conceptual designs into detailed plans that specify the layout of plants, trees, shrubs, hardscape elements, water features, and lighting. This also considers factors such as drainage, irrigation systems, and accessibility.

o Planting Design: Contributes to the selection appropriate plants and vegetation that thrive in the site’s climate and soil conditions. This involves vast knowledge of plant species, growth habits, maintenance requirements, and aesthetic characteristics.

o Construction Documentation: Contributes to the preparation of detailed drawings, specifications, and construction documents that guide contractors in implementing the landscape design accurately. This includes material specifications, quantities, and placement details.

o Environmental Sustainability: Contributes to the integration of sustainable design practices into projects when applicable to minimize environmental impact, conserve natural resources, and promote biodiversity. This includes the use of native plants, incorporating water-efficient irrigation systems, and utilizing designs that support local ecosystems.

o Client communication: With the support of a project manager, collaborates closely with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and budget constraints. Includes the presentation of design proposals, solicitation of feedback, and adjustments made to ensure client satisfaction with the final product.

o Regulatory compliance: Contributes to designs that comply with local regulations, zoning ordinances, and environmental laws. This includes addressing requirements related to land use, stormwater management, accessibility, and environmental protection.

o Maintenance planning: Contributes to the preparation of guidelines and recommendations for ongoing maintenance of the landscape once construction is completed. This can include instructions for plant care, irrigation management, pruning, fertilization, and pest control to preserve the health and beauty of the landscape over time.


Knowledge and Skills

o Demonstrated proficiency in use of AutoCAD, Civil3D, and Land F/X. Photoshop experience preferred.

o Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated proficiency in time and schedule management.

o Knowledge of plant palates and building materials.

o Demonstrate excellent communication skills.


Qualifications

o College degree in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, or related field.

o 2-5 years of related professional experience.

o Desire to become professionally licensed.

o A positive attitude and passion for learning.

o Ability to work a full-time, in-office position in Spokane, Washington.

o Must be able to reliably commute to our in-person design office or are planning to relocate prior to starting work to Spokane, WA 99201.
