Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage overall operations and profitability of the Washington DC studio, in accordance with the business goals of the firm and studio.
  • Lead monthly project reviews to define critical success factors for specific clients and projects and develop strategies and tactics to achieve them while mitigating business risks.
  • Ensure the quality of the project deliverables through strong QA/QC Review, hiring, training, and utilization of staff, leveraging efforts to maximize value for the firm.
  • Evaluate and mentor staff to encourage professional growth and leadership development.
  • Participate in marketing activities to help develop proposals, project scopes, fees, and participate in interviews.
  • Function as the Principal-in-Charge on projects.
  • Create and manage the office's operating budget.
  • Monitor financial performance, including Direct Labor Multipliers, Overhead, and Staff Utilization.
  • Use and promote collaborative behavior particularly with other senior leaders.
  • Work with corporate leadership to communicate and achieve overall business goals and aspirations.
  • Improve processes and efficiencies through innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture, Engineering, or Interior Design from an accredited college or university
  • Registered Architect or Professional Engineer
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience
  • Recent experience with operational management of an architecture, engineering, or multi-disciplinary practice.
  • Ability to plan the tasks and resources of architectural design projects.
  • Thorough understanding of the legal and financial aspects of professional practice, particularly as they relate to fee, risk management, and contract negotiation.
  • Ability to analyze problems, synthesize ideas and contributions, present solutions for discussion, and facilitate and negotiate successful resolution.
  • Ability to interact successfully with clients, other professional disciplines, and staff at a variety of levels.
  • Ability to set appropriate standards for professional performance and implement methods and techniques to increase effectiveness.
  • Intelligent, talented, and collaborative self-starter, with mature judgment about people and projects.
  • Computer literate (Excel, Word, Newforma, Nasuni, Outlook, Deltek Vision).
